Roomba j7+ and Roborock Q5 Pro+ are self-emptying robot vacuums that suit pet homes, but their strengths are different. Roomba emphasizes camera-based obstacle recognition. Roborock emphasizes vacuuming value, LiDAR mapping, and a basic mopping option.

Choose the iRobot Roomba j7+ if avoiding cords, pet waste, and common floor clutter is the priority. Its PrecisionVision system is the main reason to choose it.

Choose the Roborock Q5 Pro+ if you want strong everyday vacuuming, dual rubber rollers, LiDAR navigation, automatic emptying, and light mopping at a lower catalog price.

Pet hair and vacuuming

Both robots use dual rubber brush systems intended to handle regular floor debris and hair with less brush maintenance than traditional bristles. Both also empty into dock bags, a meaningful upgrade in pet homes where the small onboard bin fills quickly.

Obstacle avoidance and mapping

Roomba j7+ uses a front-facing camera and PrecisionVision Navigation to recognize and avoid common objects. Q5 Pro+ uses LiDAR for efficient mapping, but it does not offer the same object-recognition focus. Fragile objects, loose cables, and anything dangerous should still be removed before cleaning.

Both systems support room maps, targeted cleaning, schedules, and keep-out controls. Roborock's LiDAR can map efficiently without depending on room lighting. Roomba's app can show images of detected obstacles and ask how to handle them later.

Mopping

Q5 Pro+ includes a detachable basic mop for collecting fine dust from hard floors. You still fill the tank, clean the pad, and manage the process manually. Roomba j7+ is a vacuum-only model.
