How PickGrade Works: AI-Powered Reviews, Made Honest

PickGrade is an AI-powered product recommendation site — and we say so. Here's exactly how our analysis works, what it does and doesn't do, and why we think transparency makes recommendations better.

How PickGrade Works: AI-Powered Reviews, Made Honest

Most review sites imply that someone in a lab tested every product on every page. Often, that's not what happened. PickGrade takes the opposite approach: we're open about how our recommendations are made, because we think the method is the strength.

The short version

PickGrade uses AI to do what no human team realistically can: read and synthesize the available evidence about a product — specifications, expert reviews, aggregated user feedback, and real trade-offs — across hundreds of products at once, and keep it current. Then the PickGrade method turns that analysis into something more useful than a wall of stars: a short quiz that matches products to your situation, and honest "best for / avoid if" guidance on every pick.

What the AI does

For every category we cover, our AI analysis works through the questions a diligent researcher would ask: What does this product actually do well? Where does it fall short? Who is it right for, and who should skip it? What does it cost to own over time — filters, bags, subscriptions, replacement parts? The output isn't a generic summary; it's the structured comparison you'd build yourself if you had a week to research.

What the AI doesn't do

We don't put every product through a physical test lab, and we won't pretend we do. You'll never see invented "we tested for 40 hours" claims on PickGrade. When we describe a product's strengths and weaknesses, that's synthesis of the available evidence — stated plainly, with the reasoning visible in our trade-off notes.

The PickGrade method

Analysis is only half the problem. The other half is that "the best air purifier" doesn't exist — there's only the best one for your room, your budget, and your tolerance for noise and filter costs. That's why every category has:

  • A quiz that asks about your actual situation and matches you to a pick, instead of pushing one "winner" on everyone
  • Best for / avoid if guidance on every product, because every product is wrong for someone
  • Honest cost notes — filter prices, recurring fees, and the expenses that don't show up on the price tag

How we make money

PickGrade earns affiliate commissions when you buy through some of our links. That never changes a ranking or a recommendation — our picks are driven by the analysis, and we flag the weaknesses of products we link to just as plainly as their strengths.

Why we think this is better

A transparent AI-powered method scales honesty in a way human-pretending sites can't: every product gets the same rigorous treatment, comparisons stay current, and you always know how the recommendation was made. We'd rather earn your trust by showing our work than by implying work that never happened.
