Final verdict
If you want the deepest recovery and training data and you'll commit to the membership, WHOOP 5.0 is the more capable device — its coaching and in-app guidance are the best in the category. But for most people the Fitbit Air is the smarter buy: it delivers excellent sleep tracking and solid recovery metrics in an even lighter pod for a one-time $99, with the core data free forever. Pay WHOOP's yearly fee only if you'll actually use the strain coaching.
