The best single bar most people can buy. A SoundMotion woofer brings real bass without a sub, upfiring drivers throw convincing Atmos, and Speech Enhancement keeps dialogue clear from any seat. It costs as much as some full systems, but as one bar nothing beats it.

The Arc Ultra is the best single bar most people can buy. Its new Sound Motion driver gives it real low end for a standalone bar, the upfiring and side drivers throw a convincing Dolby Atmos bubble, and Sonos's Speech Enhancement plus room-tuning make dialogue exceptionally clear — the most common complaint about TV audio, solved without a center channel. It's also a gateway: add a Sonos Sub or Era rears later and it grows into full surround over Wi-Fi. The honest trade-offs are the Sonos tax (no DTS on some sources historically, an app-led setup) and the price, which buys you one bar where the Samsung buys a whole system.

What we like

  • Best-in-class dialogue clarity with Speech Enhancement
  • Genuine bass and Atmos height from a single bar
  • Expandable to full surround with Sonos Sub and rears
  • Excellent room-tuning (Trueplay)
  • Clean, premium design with one-cable HDMI eARC

Trade-offs

  • Expensive at $999; a full surround setup (Sub 4 + rears) gets pricey fast
  • No subwoofer included - bass is good but not cinematic alone
  • Relies on the Sonos app and Wi-Fi ecosystem
  • Single HDMI port (eARC only, no passthrough)

Best for

People who want the best one-bar sound and dialogue clarity without boxes of extra speakers, and who may add a Sonos sub or rears later.

Avoid if

You want a bundled subwoofer and rear speakers in the box — the Arc Ultra is a standalone bar, and a true 5.1.4 system like the Samsung delivers more for movie nights.

The Sonos Arc Ultra is PickGrade's overall pick: a single premium soundbar that does nearly everything well and keeps your setup clutter-free. As the long-awaited successor to the original Arc, it's a bigger upgrade than its familiar looks suggest — a new 14-driver array with Sonos's SoundMotion woofer delivers up to roughly double the bass of the old Arc, and it steps up to a 9.1.4 virtual Dolby Atmos rendering (from 5.1.2) for a wider, taller, more enveloping soundstage. Reviewers single out its clear, well-articulated dialogue from almost any seat, its spacious Atmos performance, and surprisingly solid bass for a standalone bar. Setup is genuinely simple over HDMI eARC, and there's now Bluetooth alongside Wi-Fi and AirPlay 2, plus a redesigned touch control bar and Trueplay room tuning — and it's a great music speaker too. The honest caveats: it's expensive at $999, and while it sounds full on its own, building out a true surround system with the Sub 4 and Era 300 rears gets pricey fast; it relies on the Sonos app and Wi-Fi ecosystem; and there's a single HDMI port with no passthrough. For most living rooms that want one elegant bar with convincing Atmos and great music, it's the one to beat.
