Pushes even moisture across the whole room, no white dust
Vornado EV100

The even-coverage pick. Vornado's vortex fan pushes moisture across the whole room instead of pooling in a corner, and the evaporative wick means no white dust on any water. The fan is audible and it tops out near 300 sq ft, but for tidy, even humidity it's a smart choice.
The EV100 applies Vornado's signature trick — whole-room air circulation — to humidity. Instead of a plume of mist that settles near the unit (and dampens whatever's next to it), the EV100 evaporates water into a vortex airflow that distributes moisture evenly across the room. A built-in humidistat lets you set a target percentage, and the evaporative design means no white dust with any tap water. It's compact, the dual wick trays are simple to service, and owner reports consistently note the even coverage. The fan is audible on higher speeds — typical for evaporative — and the look is more shop-vac than spa.

What we like
- ✓Vortex circulation spreads humidity evenly through the room
- ✓Built-in humidistat with target setting
- ✓No white dust — works with tap water
- ✓Compact footprint
- ✓Simple wick maintenance
Trade-offs
- −Evaporative fan makes some white noise (quieter than many, but audible)
- −Wick needs replacing ~every 4-8 weeks; distilled/filtered water recommended
- −Coverage tops out ~300 ft² (large rooms want the bigger EV200)
- −Basic - no app or smart control
Best for
Small and mid-size rooms where you want even, dust-free humidity — Vornado's circulation pushes moisture through the whole room instead of pooling around the unit.
Avoid if
You want it for a large open space or visible mist — the EV100 is built for small-to-medium rooms and evaporation is invisible by design.

How we know
Medium confidenceLast checkedThe Vornado EV100 is PickGrade's circulation pick — an evaporative humidifier built around Vornado's signature Vortex Action, a fan that pushes humidified air out and around so moisture spreads evenly through the whole room rather than pooling in one corner. Like other evaporative units it uses a moisture wick instead of an ultrasonic plate, so it produces no white dust and leaves no damp film on nearby surfaces, and an electronic humidistat holds your target (roughly 40-60%) automatically, shutting the fan off once it's reached. The 1-gallon SimpleTank is the other highlight: it's crystal-clear so you can see the water level at a glance, and a twist-to-lift lid with a built-in handle makes refilling and cleaning genuinely easy. It covers rooms up to about 300 square feet, offers high/low/auto speeds, and is backed by a strong 5-year warranty. The honest caveats: it's evaporative, so the fan makes some noise (a soft white noise, though quieter than many); the wick needs replacing roughly every 4-8 weeks (~$10-15), and Vornado recommends distilled or filtered water so hard water doesn't degrade it; coverage tops out around 300 sq ft, so large open rooms may want the bigger EV200; and it's basic, with no app or smart control. For even, mess-free whole-room humidity, it's a tidy choice.
