The humidifier decision that actually matters is the one nobody markets: evaporative versus ultrasonic. Ultrasonic models are near-silent and put out a visible mist, but they spray minerals into the room as fine white dust unless you use distilled water. Evaporative models make no white dust and physically can't over-humidify, but they run a bit louder and need a wick replaced.
