Head-to-head

Apple Watch Series 11 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 vs Apple Watch Ultra 3 vs Garmin Fenix 8 AMOLED

Verdict
Apple
Have an iPhone and don't want to overthink it? Buy this. The real upgrade is battery: a genuine 24 hours, enough to track a night's sleep without a midday top-up, plus new hypertension alerts. It's nearly a twin of the Series 10, though, so recent owners can skip it.
Samsung
The best Android smartwatch right now, as long as nightly charging doesn't bug you. $349 gets a gorgeous 3,000-nit screen, Wear OS 6 with Gemini built in, and Samsung's deep health tracking. It's at its best on a Samsung phone; on other Androids you lose a few tricks.
Apple
The Apple Watch for people who leave the pavement. $799 buys a 42-hour battery, a bright 49mm titanium case, satellite SOS off-grid, and a 40m dive rating. Overkill for city life, but the one Apple Watch a hiker or runner won't outgrow. Skip it if you own an Ultra 2.
Garmin
If your watch has to outlast a weekend off-grid, nothing here is close: weeks of battery, offline topo maps, and training depth that embarrasses Apple and Samsung, now on a bright screen. It's big and $1,100 with basic smart features, but it earns it for the right athlete.
Best for
Apple
iPhone users who want the default smartwatch experience for notifications, health tracking, workouts, Apple apps, and everyday convenience.
Samsung
Android users, especially Samsung phone owners, who want notifications, health tracking, sleep features, and app support in a familiar smartwatch format.
Apple
iPhone users who want a larger, tougher watch for outdoor use, training, travel, and longer battery life than the standard model.
Garmin
Serious training, hiking, outdoor use, and buyers who want long battery life, physical buttons, and deep fitness metrics.
Avoid if
Apple
you already own a Series 10, or you need multi-day battery and rugged durability, which the Ultra 3 and Garmin Fenix do better.
Samsung
you use an iPhone, since it pairs only with Android, or you need more than a day of battery between charges.
Apple
you have a smaller wrist, want to spend less, or only need notifications and everyday health tracking, which the standard Series 11 covers for $400 less.
Garmin
you mainly want apps, calls, and a polished smartwatch, or the 47mm size and four-figure price put you off, in which case a mainstream Apple or Samsung watch fits better.
