A genuinely fast wired backbone and the cleanest app in mesh, hamstrung by mediocre real-world Wi-Fi for the money and the best features locked behind a subscription. Buy it for the ecosystem, not the value.
The Eero Max 7 is Amazon's flagship Wi-Fi 7 mesh, and it makes its case on two fronts: wired connectivity and sheer simplicity. Each node carries two 10 GbE and two 2.5 GbE auto-sensing ports, so in a wired-backhaul setup you get a real multi-gig network out of the box — independent testers measure roughly 6 Gbps sustained over the 10-gig links, which is about as good as consumer mesh gets. It also doubles as a smart-home hub: a Matter controller, a Thread border router, a Zigbee hub, and Alexa, all built in, which removes a pile of separate bridges if you live in Amazon's ecosystem. Where it stumbles is value. The Wi-Fi itself is competent rather than class-leading, and reviewers consistently note that real-world wireless speeds don't justify the price next to cheaper Wi-Fi 7 rivals. The free app is deliberately stripped down — ad-blocking, content filters, and advanced security sit behind eero Plus at $9.99/month — and you can't split bands into separate SSIDs. If you want the easiest setup on the market and a true 10-gig wired backbone and you don't mind paying for both the hardware and the subscription, it delivers.
