Easy, affordable, and a tidy fit for Google households, but gigabit-only ports cap its ceiling and real-world speeds trail newer Wi-Fi 7 kits. A 2022 design with no successor in sight.

The Nest Wifi Pro is Google's Wi-Fi 6E mesh, and its appeal is narrow but real: it's one of the cheapest ways to put a Thread border router and Matter support at the center of a Google smart home. The three-pack covers a typical house for under $400, setup through the Google Home app is genuinely simple, and as a tri-band 6E system it has access to the cleaner 6 GHz band that older Wi-Fi 6 kits lack. The compromises are what keep it off the top of the list. Every Ethernet port is gigabit — there's no multi-gig option anywhere — so if your internet is faster than about a gigabit, the wired side becomes a hard ceiling, and reviewers consistently measure real-world speeds below current Wi-Fi 7 systems. WPA3 ships disabled by default, an odd choice you'll want to fix immediately. And it's a 2022 design that Google has since delisted, with no successor announced, so you're buying into a static product. For a Google or Matter household on a gigabit plan that values simplicity and price over speed, it still makes sense. Anyone with faster internet or an eye on longevity should step up to a Wi-Fi 7 kit.

Reviewers treat the Nest Wifi Pro as a likable but compromised pick. RTINGS records respectable Wi-Fi 6E performance and praises the easy Google Home setup, while consistently flagging the gigabit-only Ethernet ports as a self-imposed ceiling that newer systems don't share. Dong Knows Tech was harsher, characterizing the decision to ship multi-gig-era hardware with only gigabit ports as a blunder, and several outlets note real-world throughput now trails Wi-Fi 7 rivals. The redeeming feature reviewers agree on is the smart home: a built-in Thread border router plus Matter support makes it one of the cheapest legitimate ways to add a hub to a Google-centric home. With Google having delisted it and no successor announced, it's best understood as an affordable, ecosystem-driven choice rather than a forward-looking one.
