The flagship, for people who want it all. A magnetic drive, a pressure sensor that glows green when you brush right, AI app coaching, and a color display make it top-rated for plaque. It's ~$299 with pricey locked-in heads, and the iO3 gives most of the clean for far less.

The iO Series 9 is Oral-B's flagship: a magnetic-drive oscillating brush with a color pressure sensor that shows green when you're in the optimal range, an interactive display, seven modes, and app coaching that maps coverage zone by zone. Expert reviews and owner reports consistently rate the iO line at or near the top for plaque removal, and the round head makes it easy to focus on one tooth at a time. The honest catch is price: most of what makes brushing effective — the motion, the pressure sensor, the timer — is available much cheaper in the iO3. You're paying for coaching, the display, and refinement.

AI grade·Refined by real owners

What we like

  • Top-tier plaque removal in expert and owner reports
  • Visual pressure sensor (too soft / right / too hard)
  • AI position tracking and app coaching
  • Quiet for an oscillating brush
  • Charging travel case included

Trade-offs

  • Very expensive (~$299 list, though it discounts)
  • Replacement heads ~$35/two and not compatible with older Oral-B heads (iO ecosystem lock-in)
  • Smart features only pay off if you use the app and on-handle cues
  • Lots of modes some will never touch; battery not user-replaceable

Best for

People who want the most capable oscillating brush available and will actually use the app coaching to fix technique.

Avoid if

You want clean teeth, not a gadget — the iO3 or Sonicare 4100 deliver most of the clinical benefit for a quarter of the price, and iO replacement heads are expensive.

The Oral-B iO Series 9 is PickGrade's premium pick — the top of Oral-B's iO line and, in several reviewers' words, the best electric toothbrush you can buy if budget is no object. It rethinks Oral-B's signature oscillating round head with iO Magnetic Technology: a linear magnetic drive that adds gentle micro-vibrations to the rotation for a quieter, smoother, deeper clean (Oral-B claims up to 100% more plaque removed). Its standout is feedback — a Smart Pressure Sensor glows red, white, or green so you instantly see if you're pressing too hard, too soft, or just right, while a full-color interactive display shows your mode, timer, and an (oddly motivating) smiley greeting. Add seven brushing modes, a Bluetooth app with AI 3D mouth-mapping that tracks coverage tooth by tooth, a ~2-week battery, and a rechargeable travel case, and it's a genuine technique-improver — reviewers at TechRadar and TechGearLab rate it at or near the top. The honest caveats: it's very expensive (~$299 list, though it discounts); replacement heads cost around $35 for two and aren't compatible with older Oral-B heads, locking you into the iO ecosystem; and the smart features only pay off if you actually use the app and on-handle cues. If you want every feature and the best clean Oral-B makes, it's the flagship.

  • ★★★★A good buy with a few caveats

Oral-B iO Series 9 is a good buy, but not a perfect one. I like it, I just think some people should read the details first.
