Anthropic's team plan, aimed at writing, reasoning, and long-document work, with shared Projects and up to a 1M-token context; premium seats add Claude Code for engineers. Worth weighing: opaque usage limits, $100+ premium seats, no EU data residency, and no image generation.

The AI subscription to consider when the work is heavy on writing and thinking, strategy docs, policies, specs, research synthesis, proposals, and careful editing, rather than living inside Office or Google apps. Shared Projects keep a team's documents, code, and context together instead of scattered across individual chats, and a context window up to 1M tokens suits long documents and large codebases; premium seats add Claude Code for engineering teams. The trade-offs are practical: usage limits are published as multipliers rather than token counts, so the only sure test of fit is trying it; premium seats are pricey at scale; there's a five-seat minimum; EU data residency isn't offered on Team plans; and Claude doesn't generate images. For writing-, research-, and code-centric teams, it's a strong fit; image-heavy or Microsoft/Google-embedded workflows are better served elsewhere.

What we like

  • Among the strongest models for writing, reasoning, and long-document work, with a context window up to 1M tokens
  • Shared Projects keep team documents, code, and context in one place instead of siloed in individual chats
  • Premium seats include Claude Code, making it a strong fit for engineering teams building with or on Claude
  • Team conversations are not used for model training by default, with central admin controls and SSO
  • You can mix Standard and Premium seats, so only the users who need Claude Code pay the premium

Trade-offs

  • Usage limits are expressed only as multiples of the Pro plan — Anthropic does not publish token counts, so the only reliable way to know if a plan fits is to try it
  • Premium seats (required for Claude Code) are $100–125/seat/mo, a steep jump if a whole engineering team needs them
  • EU data residency is not offered on Team or consumer plans by default — inference routes to Anthropic's servers regardless (only the API has multi-region)
  • Five-seat minimum, so very small teams pay for seats they may not use
  • Claude does not generate images, so teams wanting an all-in-one creative AI will need a separate tool

Best for

People and teams that need thoughtful writing, long-document work, study help, reflection, research synthesis, strategy docs, and careful editing.

Avoid if

your highest priority is design assets, native Microsoft or Google integration, or a lower-cost grammar-only tool.

How we know

High confidenceLast checked

Claude Team is Anthropic's collaboration plan, sitting between the individual Pro plan and Enterprise. It comes in two seat types: Standard at $25/seat/month ($20 billed annually) and Premium at $125/seat/month ($100 annually), with a five-seat minimum; larger organizations are routed to Enterprise. Standard seats provide 1.25x the per-session usage of Pro and cover shared Projects, workplace connectors, central billing, admin controls, and SSO; Premium seats provide 6.25x Pro usage and add Claude Code, which makes them the right fit for engineering teams. Standard and Premium seats can be mixed on one team, so only users who need Claude Code pay the premium. The plan runs on Anthropic's current models (Opus 4.8, Sonnet 4.6, Haiku 4.5) with context windows up to 1M tokens; since March 2026, Team seats automatically get the 1M-token window in Claude Code on Opus with no long-context surcharge, a meaningful advantage for large-codebase work. Team conversations are not used to train models by default at the contract level. Claude is widely regarded as one of the strongest options for writing, reasoning, and long-document and coding tasks, which is its core appeal against ChatGPT Business and the Microsoft and Google bundles. The notable trade-offs are practical rather than about model quality: usage limits are deliberately opaque (Anthropic publishes multipliers, not token counts), Premium seats are expensive if needed at scale, EU data residency isn't available on Team plans by default, and Claude cannot generate images. It's best for teams whose work centers on writing, analysis, research, and code rather than image creation or tightly regulated EU data residency.

Not the best fit for me. Claude Team might work for someone else, but I ran into too many small frustrations.
